Orchardscroft: The Story Of An Artist is a novel written by Elsa DEsterre-Keeling and originally published in 1892. The story follows the life of a young woman named Orchardscroft, who is an artist living in England during the late 19th century. Orchardscroft is a talented painter who struggles to find her place in the art world and to balance her passion for her work with the expectations of her family and society. As the story unfolds, Orchardscroft navigates the challenges of being a female artist in a male-dominated field, while also dealing with personal relationships and the pressures of her social status. She falls in love with a fellow artist, but their relationship is complicated by his own struggles with alcoholism and his commitment to his own work.Throughout the novel, DEsterre-Keeling explores themes of gender roles, artistic expression, and the tension between individual passion and societal expectations. The book also provides a glimpse into the artistic and cultural landscape of England during the Victorian era.Overall, Orchardscroft: The Story Of An Artist is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that offers a unique perspective on the challenges faced by women in the arts during the late 19th century. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
