Weeks before the election, on a bright Tuesday the 13th, both candidates sat around the same table, facing off to debate their platforms on a local radio show called Mano a Mano, hosted by a charismatic broadcaster named Eduardo Nández. But what initially promised to be a major event for the people of Las Luces ended in a literal crossfire-not of bullets, but of venomous words designed to destroy the opponent's image. It was a familiar spectacle in a world where competition and antagonism have been pushed to the absolute extreme in every aspect of daily life.
