Once Upon A Time: Being The Life Of Adrian Ignatius McCormick Of The Society Of Jesus is a novel by David Plante. The book follows the life of Adrian Ignatius McCormick, a Jesuit priest, from his childhood in rural America to his time as a missionary in Africa. The story is told through a series of interconnected short stories, each focusing on a different period in McCormick's life. As a child, McCormick is raised by his strict Catholic mother and emotionally distant father. He attends Catholic school and becomes fascinated with the Jesuit order. After joining the Society of Jesus, McCormick is sent to Africa as a missionary. There, he struggles to reconcile his faith with the harsh realities of life in a war-torn country. Throughout the book, McCormick grapples with his own doubts and insecurities, as well as the challenges of living a life of service to others. The novel is a poignant exploration of faith, identity, and the human condition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
