On Top of the World: My Adventures with My Mountain Climbing Husband is a memoir written by Patricia Petzoldt. The book chronicles her life with her husband, Paul Petzoldt, a renowned mountaineer who founded the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). The book begins with Patricia's introduction to Paul and their courtship, which quickly leads to their shared passion for climbing. The couple embarks on a number of expeditions together, including a successful ascent of the Grand Teton in Wyoming. As their climbing careers progress, Paul becomes increasingly involved in the development of NOLS, a school that teaches wilderness skills and leadership to students. Patricia details the challenges and triumphs of starting the school, as well as the impact it had on their personal and professional lives. Throughout the book, Patricia reflects on the joys and dangers of mountain climbing, as well as the unique bond it creates between climbers. She also explores the role of women in the sport, and the challenges they face in a male-dominated field. On Top of the World is a compelling memoir that offers insight into the world of mountaineering, as well as the personal and professional lives of two pioneers in the field. It is a must-read for anyone interested in outdoor adventure, leadership, or the history of mountaineering. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
