On the Social Basis of the Lin Piao Anti-Party Clique is a significant political polemic written by Yao Wen-yuan, a prominent figure in the Chinese Cultural Revolution. This work offers a rigorous Marxist-Leninist analysis of the internal power struggles within the Communist Party of China during a period of intense ideological transformation. The text explores the sociological and economic conditions that allowed the so-called Lin Piao anti-party clique to emerge, framing their actions as a betrayal of the proletariat and an attempt to restore capitalism.
Yao Wen-yuan examines the relationship between the superstructure and the economic base, arguing that the remnants of bourgeois right and class distinctions provide fertile ground for revisionism. By dissecting the ideological foundations of his political opponents, the author provides a classic example of Maoist rhetoric and the theory of continued revolution under the dictatorship of the proletariat. This volume remains an essential primary source for scholars of 20th-century Chinese history, political theory, and the complex dynamics of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution.
