On The Indian Trail: Stories Of Missionary Work Among The Cree And Saulteaux Indians is a book written by Egerton R. Young and originally published in 1897. The book tells the story of the author's experiences as a missionary among the Cree and Saulteaux Indians in Canada during the late 19th century. The book is divided into 17 chapters, each of which recounts a different aspect of the author's work among the indigenous people. Young describes his journey to Canada, his first impressions of the Cree and Saulteaux, and the challenges he faced in trying to communicate with them. He also writes about the customs, beliefs, and traditions of the indigenous people, and the ways in which he tried to incorporate these into his missionary work.Throughout the book, Young emphasizes the importance of respecting the culture and traditions of the indigenous people, and he acknowledges the mistakes that he made in his early attempts to convert them to Christianity. He also writes about the friendships he formed with members of the Cree and Saulteaux communities, and the ways in which he learned from them.On The Indian Trail is a fascinating and insightful account of the early days of Christian missionary work among the indigenous people of Canada. It provides a unique perspective on the cultural and religious clashes that occurred during this time, and offers valuable insights into the complexities of cross-cultural communication and understanding. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
