On The Flora Of Australia: Its Origin, Affinities And Distribution is a book written by Joseph Dalton Hooker and published in 1859. The book is an extensive study of the flora of Australia, examining its origins, affinities, and distribution. Hooker was a prominent British botanist and explorer who had previously published works on the flora of India and the Himalayas. In this book, Hooker presents a detailed analysis of the Australian flora, including its unique characteristics and how it compares to other floras around the world. He explores the origins of the Australian flora, discussing how it evolved and adapted to the continent's unique environment over millions of years. Hooker also examines the relationships between different Australian plant groups and their distribution across the continent, providing insights into the biogeography of Australia. The book is divided into several sections, each focusing on different aspects of the Australian flora. The first section provides an overview of the flora, including its geological history, climate, and vegetation types. The following sections examine different plant groups, including ferns, conifers, and flowering plants. Hooker also discusses the economic uses of Australian plants, such as timber, medicine, and food.Overall, On The Flora Of Australia: Its Origin, Affinities And Distribution is a comprehensive study of the Australian flora that provides valuable insights into the continent's unique plant life. The book is still considered an important reference for botanists and researchers studying the flora of Australia. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
