On The Artificial Tympanum: A New Mode Of Treating Deafness is a book written by James Yearsley in 1862. The book explores a new method of treating deafness using an artificial eardrum, or tympanum. Yearsley describes the anatomy and physiology of the ear, as well as the causes and symptoms of deafness. He then presents his new method of treatment, which involves surgically implanting an artificial eardrum made of india-rubber or gold-beater's skin. Yearsley explains the surgical procedure in detail and provides case studies of patients who have undergone the treatment. The book also includes illustrations and diagrams to aid in understanding the surgical technique. On The Artificial Tympanum: A New Mode Of Treating Deafness is an important historical text in the field of otology and provides insight into the development of surgical techniques for treating deafness. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
