On Restoration, And A Notice Of His Works In Connection With The Historical Monuments Of France is a book written by Eugene-Emmanuel Viollet-Le-Duc in 1875. The book is a comprehensive account of the author's work as a restorer of historical monuments in France during the 19th century. Viollet-Le-Duc was a prominent architect and restorer who played a key role in the restoration of many of France's most important historical buildings, including the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. The book is divided into two parts. The first part provides an overview of the principles and practices of restoration, as well as the author's own philosophy on the subject. Viollet-Le-Duc argues that restoration should aim to preserve the original character and spirit of a building, while also making it functional and safe for modern use.The second part of the book focuses on Viollet-Le-Duc's own work as a restorer. He provides detailed accounts of his restoration projects, including the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, the Chateau de Pierrefonds, and the Cathedral of Saint-Denis. Each chapter includes illustrations and photographs of the buildings before and after restoration, as well as detailed descriptions of the restoration process.Overall, On Restoration, And A Notice Of His Works In Connection With The Historical Monuments Of France is an important historical document that provides valuable insights into the practice of restoration during the 19th century. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of architecture and the preservation of historical buildings. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
