Old Christmas and Bracebridge Hall: From the Sketchbook of Washington Irving is a collection of two classic works by American author Washington Irving. The book is a compilation of stories, essays, and sketches that capture the spirit of Christmas and the holiday season. The first half of the book, Old Christmas, is a nostalgic and heartwarming account of the traditional English Christmas customs and celebrations of the past. Irving, who spent time in England, describes the festive atmosphere of the holiday season, including the decorations, food, and games. He also explores the history and origins of Christmas, and reflects on the importance of family and community during this time of year. The second half of the book, Bracebridge Hall, is a series of interconnected stories set in an English country estate during the Christmas season. The tales revolve around the eccentric inhabitants of Bracebridge Hall and their various misadventures and romances. The stories are filled with humor, wit, and charm, and offer a glimpse into the social and cultural customs of the time. Overall, Old Christmas and Bracebridge Hall is a delightful and heartwarming collection of stories that capture the essence of the holiday season. Irving's vivid descriptions and engaging characters bring to life the magic and joy of Christmas, making this book a timeless classic that readers of all ages will enjoy. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
