An Old New Zealander: Or Te Rauparaha, The Napoleon Of The South is a historical biography written by Thomas Lindsay Buick in 1911. The book tells the story of Te Rauparaha, a Maori chief and warrior who lived in New Zealand during the early 19th century. Te Rauparaha is known for his military exploits, including his conquest of much of the South Island of New Zealand, and for his role in establishing the Ngati Toa tribe as a major political and military force in the region. Buick's biography explores Te Rauparaha's life and legacy, drawing on historical records, oral traditions, and personal accounts to paint a vivid picture of this important figure in New Zealand history. The book also provides insights into Maori culture and society during the period of Te Rauparaha's life, as well as the interactions between Maori and European settlers that characterized the early colonial period of New Zealand's history. Overall, An Old New Zealander is a fascinating and informative read for anyone interested in the history of New Zealand and its indigenous peoples. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
