The Old Masters of Belgium and Holland is a book written by Eugene Fromentin in 1882. It is a comprehensive study of the art and artists of the Low Countries during the 15th and 16th centuries. Fromentin offers an in-depth analysis of the works of the great Flemish and Dutch painters, including Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden, Hans Memling, Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, and Rembrandt van Rijn. The book is divided into chapters that focus on different aspects of the art of the Low Countries, such as the use of color, the representation of light and shadow, and the depiction of landscapes and cityscapes. Fromentin's writing is clear and insightful, and he provides numerous examples of the paintings he discusses. The book is a valuable resource for art historians, students, and anyone interested in the art of the Low Countries during the Renaissance. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
