Old Master: The Life of Jan Christian Smuts by Rene Kraus is a biography of one of South Africa's most prominent political figures. Jan Christian Smuts was a statesman, soldier, and philosopher who played a key role in shaping South Africa's history. The book follows Smuts' life from his humble beginnings as a farmer's son to his rise as a lawyer, politician, and ultimately, a national hero. Kraus delves into Smuts' personal life, including his marriage, family, and friendships, as well as his political career, which saw him serve as Prime Minister of South Africa twice. The book also explores Smuts' views on philosophy and science, which were deeply influential in shaping his political beliefs. Through extensive research and interviews with those who knew Smuts, Kraus paints a comprehensive portrait of a complex and fascinating figure. The book is a must-read for anyone interested in South African history, politics, or the life of Jan Christian Smuts himself. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
