Old Heidelberg is a novel written by Wilhelm Meyer-Forster in 1904. The story is set in the German city of Heidelberg and follows the life of a young prince named Karl Heinrich who attends the University of Heidelberg. Karl Heinrich falls in love with a beautiful barmaid named Kathi and the two begin a secret romance. However, their love is threatened by the prince's royal duties and the disapproval of his father, the Grand Duke. The novel explores themes of love, duty, and sacrifice as Karl Heinrich must choose between his heart and his responsibilities as a prince. The book also provides a glimpse into the student life and traditions of Heidelberg University during the early 20th century. Old Heidelberg has been adapted into several films and stage productions and remains a classic romantic tale. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
