Published in 1748, Johann Friedrich Bachstrom's Observationes circa Scorbutum is a seminal work in the history of medicine. This groundbreaking study offers a detailed clinical description of scurvy, a disease that plagued sailors and soldiers for centuries, and proposes a theory of its causes and treatments that foreshadows modern ideas about vitamins and nutrition.
