Every year on Carnival Day, the streets fill with a whirl of color and sound, as people put on their wildest costumes and pick up their musical instruments to celebrate with a grand parade. When the big day arrives, everyone is excited! Everyone except for Nini. She doesn't have a costume, and so she doesn't want to join in the fun.
She sits and cries until a familiar-looking fairy godmother arrives with a solution--a beautiful piece of colorful cloth that will let Nini join the celebration and become Queen of the Carnival.
Readers will feel as if they are joining in themselves as the energy from the images seems to march right off the page into your imagination. Nini at Carnival is a story of the yearly celebration of Caribbean culture which takes place around the world, from Rio to London's Notting Hill to New Orleans. First published in the 1970s, its themes of friendship and community are just as relevant today.
Author and artist Errol Lloyd's instantly recognizable mixed-media illustrations remain timeless, full of striking primary colors, aquas, and oranges that will appeal to children everywhere. A perfect story for families, schools, and libraries at Carnival, or any time of year, this new edition is sure to become a beloved classic for a new generation of readers.
