The conversation about men and women in the church has become a minefield. Some have seen male leadership distorted into domination. Neither Tyrants nor Tokens was born out of pastoral necessity, shaped by years of frontline conversations with ordinary Christians who simply want to know what Scripture teaches and how to live it with wisdom and grace. Jeff Kennedy offers a pastoral, Bible-centered vision for men and women in the home and the church that refuses the false choices so common today: harsh control or passive absence, token inclusion or a flattening of biblical distinctions.
This book argues for a complementarian framework that is firm in conviction and careful in tone. It calls men to Christlike, cross-shaped leadership and responsibility in marriage and family life. It honors women as indispensable co-laborers in the mission of the church, encouraging meaningful service and ministry without treating women as props, threats, or afterthoughts. And it makes a clear case for male headship in the home and qualified male eldership in the gathered church, not as privilege, but as a pattern of humble responsibility under the lordship of Christ.
