Welcome to the 'notes on men' project!
This project poses a question on masculinity, inviting people to consider what is a man.
The project started as a collection of handwritten answers shared by people of all ages and walks of life to the question: What is a man?
The question is very open; answers can be as brief as a word or as detailed as the page allows... Answers can be in the form of a picture, or the page can be left blank.
The project has since evolved into a mixed media exploration of masculinity.

ABOUT THIS PUBLICATIONAll the answers in this book were collected between the years 2019 and 2021, by myself, James. I carried the book around with me everywhere I went, between Ireland, France, London and Cornwall.
This book is the original collection of answers and the first of a series of publications.
The answers that form the pages of this book were collected through conversation with friends, acquaintances, strangers and passers-by.
