Published during the Great War from information gained by MI3b, a division of the British Directorate of Military Intelligence that covered Austro-Hungary and Switzerland, this is a detailed compilation of the types and varieties of Austro-Hungarian shell fuses which plagued the Italian front. It should be noted at the Battle of Caporetto in 1917, the Austro-Hungarians and Germans used, as part of a huge artillery barrage, chlorine-arsenic agent and diphosgene gas shells. Some pages were left intentionally blank at the time of publication (1918) for possible amendments to be tipped in rather than having to reprint the entire print run of the manual. This was usual War Office Practice with ordnance manuals.
