His mother and others in the room said-- Poor little fellow, never mind, he's too young to know better; but the little boy turned from them all, and went up to his grandmother and kissed her hand. The little child had faith that the punishment was given in love. Thus should we have faith when our heavenly Father sends us sorrow, disappointment, difficulties and vexations of any kind. They sometimes look like hardness, as did the answer of Jesus to the Syro-Phoenician woman. They are our Father's lessons, teaching us. To feel this is to have faith. To remember it till it silences each murmur, each feeling of envy and discontent, is to live in faith. When we are alone at night, let us shut our eyes to all outward things, and try to feel that God is near us; try to feel it also in the midst of our work, when we are angry, or happy, or weary, or sad; if we try often it will become gradually easier. We shall lose that feeling of strangeness at the awful unseen, unknown God; we shall learn to think of Him, not in fear as the Judge, who, when death comes, may send us into everlasting misery; but as the Great Father, ever, ever helping sf whom we would seek till we find Him--to whom we can stretch out our arms, and to whom we can pourout our fears and hopes, our wants and wishes. Thi& is to believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to have Life Eternal. CHAPTER XVI. Matt. xu. 38. Pharisees and Sadducees 1 Cor. i. 22, Luke xii. 54-56, Luke xi. 16, Mark viii. 11.
