Northanger Abbey and Persuasion is a novel by Jane Austen, first published in 1833. The book is a combination of two novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, which were originally published separately in 1818. Northanger Abbey is a coming-of-age story about Catherine Morland, a young woman who is invited to stay with the Tilney family at their home, Northanger Abbey. Catherine is an avid reader of Gothic novels and begins to imagine that the Tilney family is involved in a dark and mysterious plot. However, as she learns more about the family and their history, she realizes that her fears were unfounded.Persuasion is a story about Anne Elliot, a young woman who is persuaded by her family to break off her engagement to Captain Wentworth. Eight years later, Wentworth returns to town as a wealthy and successful captain. Anne must navigate her feelings for Wentworth and the social expectations of the time to determine if they can rekindle their relationship.Austen's writing style is characterized by her wit, humor, and social commentary. The book explores themes of love, class, and societal expectations in Regency-era England. Northanger Abbey and Persuasion is a classic novel that continues to be popular with readers today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
