Bring the stories of the Norse gods to the stage with this lively collection of 10 plays for children.
Meet Odin, Thor, Loki, Freya, Fenrir and many other well-known characters from Norse mythology. The plays are full of giants, magic, tricks, battles, humour and adventure, making them enjoyable for children to read, rehearse and perform.
The collection includes:
The Creation of the World
Odin and the Well of Wisdom
Loki and the Golden Apples
Thor's Hammer Is Stolen
Thor and the Giant King
Freya's Necklace
The Mead of Poetry
The Binding of Fenrir
The Death of Balder
Ragnarök
The plays have been written for classroom and group performance. The roles can be shared, doubled or adapted to suit different group sizes, including full classes. The scripts include clear dialogue, simple stage directions and plenty of opportunities for movement, mime and imaginative drama.
There is no need for expensive costumes, scenery or props. Children can use their bodies and voices to create mountains, storms, giants, wolves, serpents and the different worlds of Norse mythology.
As well as being exciting and funny, the plays explore themes such as courage, wisdom, friendship, loyalty, jealousy, responsibility, loss and new beginnings.
Norse Legends on Stage is ideal for teachers, drama leaders, home educators, youth theatre groups and primary school classrooms looking for flexible plays that are easy to stage and enjoyable to perform.
And with Loki involved, things are unlikely to stay quiet for long.
