N. K. Sreedharan: A Biography of an Indian Freedom Fighter recounts the extraordinary life of an ordinary Indian whose courage became part of the larger story of India's struggle for independence. Born in Neyyattinkara in the princely state of Travancore, N. K. Sreedharan came of age during one of the most turbulent periods in India's history. On 31 August 1938, as a young freedom fighter, he stood among the protesters at Neyyattinkara when police opened fire on an unarmed crowd. Struck by a bullet, he survived to witness the birth of the nation for which he had willingly risked his life.Drawing upon archival records, family documents, oral histories, and historical research, this biography reconstructs not only the life of one man but also the political, social, and cultural landscape of colonial Travancore. It explores the rise of social reform, the emergence of the freedom movement in Kerala, and the sacrifices of countless men and women whose names rarely find a place in the pages of history.In recognition of his distinguished contribution to the freedom struggle, N. K. Sreedharan was awarded the Tamrapatra, the Government of India's Copper Plaque honour for freedom fighters, in 1973. His story stands as a testament to the resilience, patriotism, and quiet heroism of a generation that secured India's independence through courage rather than acclaim.
