Andy Pearson has lived with prophetic, ominous dreams since childhood. He never knows when the nightmares will come or who they will single out, only that the person in the dream is someone close to him, and their death will come within a week.

A bookish kid from a small town, Andy grew up hiding his harrowing ability. His family didn't know. His friends didn't know. Neither did the girl he once believed he could have a normal life with.

After years of searching for answers, Andy has walked away from college and left his hometown behind, keeping the people he cares about at a safe distance.
