Imagine moving into a house you believe will keep you safe from the denizens of the night, only to discover that the house itself is a vampire, luring unwary tenants inside for dinner. The Night to Dawn 50 vampires are unique. Instead of the traditional bloodsucker, the vampire may be a place or an object just as deadly as any creature of the night. Sometimes the protagonist is already battling personal demons before someone turns him into a vampire, as in Marc Shapiro's Fright at Night. A vampire takes the form of a dangerous tunnel in Kevin R. Doyle's The Throat; woe betide the person who enters alone. A fanged pumpkin in Margaret L. Carter's Night of the Living Gourd threatens animals and people, but the story ends happily. I believe the spirits from the Thirty Years' War lingered in the experimental garden in Christopher's Cumo's The Botanist, and during his travels, something infected Steinberg with immortality. A few stories conclude on a hopeful note, but most of the ones listed below end in darkness, proving that in Night to Dawn 50, a vampire can be anything-and it is almost never what you expect.
