In the scenic town of Grainly nestled among green hills and lake bays, multiple people are being found mysteriously lifeless. Detective Chief Inspector Milligan and his two deputies, Detective Inspectors named Nelson and Ainsley, are tasked with solving the complicated mystery that includes a hybrid floral creation. The case becomes increasingly complex until a startling realisation hits them. They reach the point where they need the assistance of some senior academics, especially Professor Simovich whose energetic character leaves a positive impression on them. Milligan's relationship with his deputies extends to positively nurturing and mentoring them in their detective activities.
A suspect is finally caught and events slowly culminate in the realisation that other factors are at work. Night Morph, or Nox morphosis, is the name of a hybrid floral creation that is highly popular in the town and region. It is especially in demand for use in floral bouquets for relatives of those who are affected and is the talk of the town and region. The town of Grainly is spread over several levels including high hills that are also accessed by hand carved out of stone Nero's Steps. A Bad Ass solid bridge spans the two bays that are in the form a lying flat number 8. The lake bays and waterway are highly popular recreation areas. The two local universities are prominent in the town, as well as coffee shops. Milligan, Nelson, and Ainsley have at times The Boss, also known as the Chief Constable, on their backs. She is not a people person and has no detective experience, but her soft under belly is eventually discovered.
