The holy life of Catharine Tehgahkwita, the saintly virgin of the Mohawk, is well known; and the odor of her virtues is still fresh on the banks of the St. Lawrence, where she edified all by her life, and aided so many after her death. Among the sketches of Father De Smet, published recently in Belgium, is a short memoir of Louise Sigmouin, a holy woman of the tribe of the Coeur-d'Alenes, which shows us another example of high sanctity attained in an Indian wigwam, and affords us a model and a patron through whom we may piously expect that God will grant favors for the glory of his servant and the salvation of souls. The biography is one that cannot fail to touch and instruct all. To it we have added some of the more recent sketches of the pious missionary whose letters are always so lunch esteemed, and a catechism of the Flathead Indians, to give some idea of the mode of instruction adopted by our missionaries, and the difficulty inherent in all the Indian languages of expressing religious thoughts. This work also contains a catechism for the Indians in their native language as well as English. The Short Indian Catechism in use among the Flatheads, Kalispels, Pends-d'Oreilles, and other Rocky Mountain Indians It also has a glossary of comomn words in both languages.
