A New Flora of the Neighbourhood of Reigate, Surrey by James Alexander Brewer, first published in 1856, provides a detailed catalog of the flowering plants and ferns found in the Reigate area. This meticulous botanical survey offers a valuable glimpse into the natural history of Surrey during the Victorian era. The book includes an appendix listing the fauna of the region, making it a comprehensive resource for naturalists and historians alike.
Brewer's work is a testament to the detailed observation and documentation characteristic of 19th-century natural science. It serves not only as a record of the plant life of Reigate but also as a historical document, reflecting the environmental conditions and scientific interests of its time. This edition preserves the original text, offering modern readers a chance to explore the flora of Reigate through the eyes of a dedicated Victorian naturalist.
