From his early calling and preparation at the Virginia Military Institute, to subsequent training in Ranger, Airborne and Jumpmaster courses in the U.S. Army, his career slowly evolves into a life journey as he experiences combat, up front and personal, the old-fashioned way - one fearful and sometimes terrifying event at a time.

From the Fulda Gap and the Korean DMZ to Honduras and the Empty Quarter in Iraq, no amount of peacetime training could have prepared him for these future events.
