Published by the Charities Publication Committee, the book provides a detailed analysis of the social and economic challenges faced by African Americans in urban areas, including discrimination, segregation, and poverty. Devine draws on a range of sources, including government reports, newspaper articles, and personal interviews, to paint a vivid picture of life for African Americans in cities like New York, Chicago, and Detroit. The book also examines the role of charities and social welfare organizations in addressing the needs of the African American community, highlighting both their successes and limitations. Overall, The Negro In The Cities Of The North is an important historical document that sheds light on a critical period in African American history and provides valuable insights into the ongoing struggle for racial equality in the United States. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
