The Need for Green is a gentle children's picture book about feeling different, finding safety, and embracing who you are.
When the world feels loud, overwhelming, and hard to understand, one child discovers comfort in something simple and steady: the color green. Green becomes more than a color. It becomes a place of calm. A reminder of safety. A way to regulate when everything feels too big.
Rooted in lived autistic experience and written by an autistic author and parent, this story offers authentic representation for autistic children while also helping siblings, classmates, and caregivers better understand sensory needs and emotional regulation.
Through soft language and nature-centered imagery, The Need for Green explores:
- sensory comfort and overstimulation
- emotional regulation for young children
- belonging and self acceptance
- empathy and inclusive understanding
This book is ideal for families, inclusive classrooms, special education settings, occupational therapy spaces, and anyone seeking a neurodiversity affirming picture book.
Perfect for ages 4 to 8, The Need for Green gently reminds children that needing something different does not make you wrong. It makes you uniquely you.
