This historical document presents the hearings before the Committee on Public Lands of the 64th Congress, 1st Session, concerning H.R. 434 and H.R. 8668, bills aiming to establish a National Park Service. Held on April 5 and 6, 1916, these hearings capture the debates, discussions, and perspectives surrounding the creation of this vital agency.
Witness firsthand the arguments for and against the establishment of a National Park Service. Delve into the concerns regarding the management, protection, and use of public lands. Explore the nascent ideas of conservation and preservation that shaped the early 20th century. This volume offers a crucial insight into the legislative process and the foundational principles that underpin the National Park Service, an institution that continues to safeguard America's natural and cultural heritage.
