I wrote this book for several reasons. First, I wanted to share my art with the world. I also wanted to show young black boys and girls growing up in today's society that there are other ways to express your hurt, pain, fear, joy, happiness, or elation. There are better ways to address the things that most concern you. My hope with this series is that we can begin to open the minds of our youth. I want to help them express their emotions safely and confidently through writing, poetry, or even spoken words. Poetry has helped me tremendously over the years. Even writing this book and re-reading these poems, having some of these memories come to my mind was therapy enough for me.
