In this compelling memoir, F.W. Sweetingham RN, RAN, recounts a life shaped by duty, discipline, and the vast oceans he once called home. Spanning decades of military service in both the Royal Navy and the Royal Australian Navy, Sweetingham's story is a vivid tapestry of wartime operations, camaraderie, and personal sacrifice.
From his early days serving with the famous Royal Navy artillery units during the Boer War, to his detailed account of naval operations in the First World War, this memoir offers a rare and authoritative insight into key moments of maritime military history.
From the grim realities of conflict to the quiet moments of reflection aboard ship, his journey takes readers behind the uniform-into the heart of a sailor, a leader, and a man navigating the tides of change across continents and eras.
Told with wit, humility, and an eye for detail, My Destiny the Sea is not just a chronicle of military life-it's a tribute to those who serve and the enduring spirit of the sea. For anyone who has heard the call of the ocean, this is a life's voyage you will never forget. Volume I 1877 - 1915.
