A warm, relatable picture book about perfectionism, mistakes, and the courage to try again.
Murphy wants to be perfect. Not just good. Perfect.
At school, that means having the right answer, doing every activity correctly, and making sure every picture turns out just the way he imagined. But when Murphy blurts out the wrong answer, freezes at Center Time, and cannot bring himself to start a drawing, being perfect starts to feel exhausting.
As his day unravels, Murphy begins to discover that making a mistake does not mean he has failed. Mistakes are part of learning, growing, and trying again.
Murphy Makes a Mistake is a reassuring picture book for children who worry about getting things wrong or put pressure on themselves to do everything perfectly. With a relatable school setting and a lovable cat character, the story gives parents, teachers, and caregivers a natural way to talk about perfectionism, fear of failure, confidence, and resilience.
It's a supportive read-aloud for ages 4 to 8 that reminds young readers they do not have to be perfect to be proud of themselves.
