Wynne is a precocious mockingbird hatched in the Willem Woods of the rural South in the late 1800s. While his whole family are singers, he dares to be different: aspiring to be a novelist just like his hero, Mark Twain. In this charming illustrated classic children's tale full of talking animals and family values, one lost bird finds his true nature, and his way home.

When crows attack his nest, Wynne is separated from his family, kidnapped by the evil Grey Cat for supper, and swept away on a great adventure along the Mississippi River. He's caught up in a tornado, and with only his wits to escape the wily criminals in the Creekside Parlor, he befriends all kinds of critters, and even a few people along his path. But Wynne never gives up on his dream, no matter how far from home he wanders, even to the bustling city of New Orleans, Louisiana, where a smart and vivacious mockingbird named Constance captures his heart.

But will he ever find his way back home to his parents, his siblings, and his nest? While he waits for his wings to grow new flight feathers, Wynne learns to read and write, and makes new friends in some surprising places, and is even mentored by Mark Twain himself. But only the oldest grandmother bird in the woods, the Skumpleton, deep in the swamp, knows the way home. Can Wynne find her, and his family, before autumn comes? He'll be confronted by dangerous old foes, and partner with new kind-hearted friends, to triumph and find his freedom.

Full of delightful quotes from Mark Twain's literature, this delightful novel for children ages 6-11 shines with important lessons and values of character, perseverance, learning and love. Ideal for classrooms and educators, with each turn of the page, your child is sure to appreciate friendship, nature, animals, kindness, wisdom, and adventure. Original illustrations of each character drawn by a legacy Hollywood animator accompany the chapters.
