MIYABARU 198 is a collection of stories tracking human life in a small corner of rural Japan. Rural communities have been the backbone of the Japanese nation since agriculture was adopted some two millennia ago, but is currently wasting away due to aging and depopulation. Most farming communities are less than half as big as they were at the end of World War II, while many small or isolated hamlets have ceased to exist as places of human habitation. Yet each one of these is a treasure trove of tradition and history, both mundane, terrible and glorious.

MIYABARU 198 looks into the lives of five residents of a particular hamlet at different eras in this long history. Each character stands at a fulcrum, caught between their own decisions and the forces of nature and history that shape their fate.
