Mary Lyon Through Her Letters offers a unique glimpse into the life and mind of Mary Lyon, the pioneering educator and founder of Mount Holyoke Female Seminary (now Mount Holyoke College). Compiled and presented by Marion Lansing, this collection showcases Lyon's personal correspondence, revealing her vision, dedication, and unwavering commitment to women's education in 19th-century America.
The letters provide insight into Lyon's efforts to establish and maintain Mount Holyoke, highlighting the challenges she faced and the innovative approaches she employed. Readers will discover Lyon's thoughts on curriculum development, fundraising, and the importance of character development in young women. These primary source documents offer a compelling and intimate portrait of a remarkable woman who transformed the landscape of higher education for women.
