Mary-Gusta is a novel written by Joseph C. Lincoln, originally published in 1910. The story is set in the small town of South Harniss, Massachusetts, and follows the life of Mary Augusta, or Mary-Gusta as she is affectionately called by her friends and family. Mary-Gusta is a young woman who is struggling to find her place in the world and to overcome the challenges that life throws her way.The novel begins with Mary-Gusta as a young girl, living with her father and grandmother in a small cottage on the outskirts of town. Her father is a fisherman who spends most of his time at sea, leaving Mary-Gusta to care for her grandmother and the household. Despite her difficult circumstances, Mary-Gusta is a strong and determined young woman who is determined to make the most of her life.As the story progresses, Mary-Gusta faces a series of challenges, including the death of her grandmother, financial struggles, and romantic entanglements. Along the way, she forms close friendships with several of the town's residents, including the local doctor and his wife, who become like family to her.Throughout the novel, Lincoln paints a vivid picture of life in a small New England town at the turn of the 20th century. He captures the rhythms and routines of daily life, as well as the joys and sorrows that come with living in a close-knit community. At its heart, Mary-Gusta is a story about resilience, perseverance, and the power of human connection to overcome even the most difficult challenges. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
