MARIPOSA-BOOK II-WINTER IN EDEN is the enthralling second novel in a sweeping family saga that opens with the long-delayed wedding of Damien and Harper Whittaker at their vast Hereford spread Rancha Mariposa in Wyoming Territory. In 1886, the entire Golden Age of cattle ranching in the Amerca West is threatened by debilitating drought. In a foolhardy scheme to sell their cattle in England and save the day, Damien's brother Brendan is killed and most of their cattle are lost. The Whittakers' daughter Delaney is born during the devastating winter that follows, virtually ending the dreams of easy fortune in the American West. In the bleak aftermath of catastrophe, the Whittakers recoup, buying up much of the cheap land and cattle abandoned by departing ranchers. As Wyoming attains statehood, a son Chandler is born and the future looks bright until the menace of rustling escalates. Damien joins an Invasion of fellow cattlemen against the thieves and most of the most ruthless are killed. Imprisoned, Damien awaits trial and possible hanging. He and Harper face a future so perilous, it will require all their courage to survive.
