This commentary on the book of Malachi follows the format the series HistoricalCommentary of the Old Testament has become known for (a newtranslation, essentials and perspectives, scholarly exposition includingan introduction to and a verse by verse exegesis). The commentaryincorporates the most recent research on the book of Malachi andprovides the reader with a fresh translation where more than onepossible translation is given at some problematic verses. The stylisticdevice of antithesis used predominantly in the book of Malachi ishighlighted illustrating the impact this has on the understanding of thebook. A new look at the literary genres used in the book is also giventogether with a reconsideration of the demarcation of some of the units.Attention is also paid to the theological message of each unit as wellas of the book as a whole.
