Mad Woman is a collection of poetry that highlights all things unsettling and uncomfortable. These poems incorporate mental health, womanhood, love, abuse, and revenge as a means to reflect the madness in the life of the speaker in this book.
Mad Woman is my first chapbook. I wanted a book that showcased emotions that are real, raw, and overall uncomfortable. Rarely do we ever get to see those types of feelings reflected in poetry. My hopes are to normalize sitting with emotions that are not comfortable and recognizing that these feelings don't have to be ignored. I hope that this book can help women like myself feel seen and heard. - Shelby Hughes
Shelby Hughes is a junior SCSU student majoring in Social Work. She is twenty-two years old. Born and raised in Meriden, CT, she now lives with her family in Wallingford, CT. She plans on becoming a LCSW while also continuing to write poetry in her free time. Shelby is also published in the Art and Literary Magazine of SCSU, Folio. This is her first chapbook and she couldn't have done it without the support of her amazing family, friends, and English professors
