My Land of Dreams is a memoir written by Robert Kingery Buell, chronicling his life growing up in rural America during the early 20th century. The book is divided into three parts, with each section focusing on a different period in Buell's life. The first part of the book details Buell's childhood in rural Ohio, where he lived on a farm with his family. He describes the challenges of growing up during the Great Depression, including the struggles his family faced to make ends meet. Despite these difficulties, Buell reflects on the simple pleasures of his childhood, such as playing with his siblings and exploring the countryside around his home. The second part of the book covers Buell's time serving in World War II. He was drafted into the army and sent to Europe, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Buell recounts the horrors of war and the toll it took on him and his fellow soldiers. He also reflects on the friendships he formed during this time and the lessons he learned about sacrifice and resilience. The final part of the book focuses on Buell's life after the war. He returned to the United States and settled in California, where he worked as a journalist and raised a family. Buell reflects on the changes he witnessed in American society during this time, including the civil rights movement and the rise of the counterculture. He also shares his thoughts on the importance of family, community, and faith in navigating life's challenges.Throughout the book, Buell's writing is marked by a deep sense of nostalgia and a love for the land and people that shaped his life. My Land of Dreams is a poignant and heartfelt memoir that offers a glimpse into a bygone era of American history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
