From foster homes and foxholes to prison cells and a quiet Missouri farm, My Journey to God: A Memoir of Faith Through Fire is the true story of a man who, by all accounts, should not still be here.
When Timothy F Terrell was six, his parents divorced and his childhood security vanished. At ten, his father was killed in a car wreck on Father's Day. What followed was a maze of foster homes, a mental hospital, state custody, and a boy learning to survive in a world that seemed determined to break him.
At seventeen, Timothy enlisted in the U.S. Army. In the burning deserts of Desert Storm and the streets of Mogadishu, he faced enemy fire, made desperate foxhole prayers, and watched friends bleed and die. Injured in Somalia and discharged after 6.5 years of service, he returned home-only to be arrested for crimes he did not commit and sentenced to five years in some of Missouri's hardest prisons.
When he walked out of prison in 2000, there was no parole, no halfway house, no safety net-just calloused hands, a scarred heart, and a stubborn will to keep going. He rebuilt his life as an electrician and business owner, traveled the country with the motto Have tools, will travel, married, loved, failed, and eventually watched his marriage collapse under the weight of his own fears and the affair that shattered his wife's trust.
Now, living back in his hometown on a farm, Timothy spends his days walking the land and wrestling with God-about suffering and injustice, about the damage done to him and the damage he has done to others, and about whether a man like him can ever truly get it right.
My Journey to God is not a neat, polished testimony. It is a brutally honest, deeply human account of:
