In times of crisis when our faculty for language fails, we wait for the oracle to speak in other modes - through visions, memories, in languages of our past and future. Secret messages rise to guide us from a fractured state to a place of agency. In Sonya Wohletz's collection One Row After / Bir Sira Sonra the reader accompanies the narrator on a mystical journey beyond rows of language, where the void closes in. Yet above it all, a five pointed star set in the deepest blue of the sky, holds the world of the speaker in its benevolent embrace. In vivid, eloquent poems, Wohletz takes the reader on this journey through polaroid memories and earth-toned landscapes, in sock-feet through hallways, under the ritual of daily blessings to enter a healing, idyllic world.
