Much Ado About Peter is a novel written by Jean Webster and published in 1909. The story follows the life of Peter Paterson, a young man who has just graduated from college and is trying to find his place in the world. He is a talented artist but struggles to make a living from his work. Peter's life takes a turn when he meets a wealthy woman named Mrs. Crosby. She takes an interest in his artwork and offers to support him financially so he can focus on his craft. However, this arrangement comes with a catch - Mrs. Crosby insists that Peter must marry her daughter, Sylvia, in order to secure her financial support.Peter is hesitant to enter into a marriage of convenience, but he is also desperate for the financial stability that Mrs. Crosby can provide. He agrees to the arrangement and marries Sylvia, but soon realizes that he has made a mistake. He is not in love with Sylvia and feels trapped in the marriage. As Peter tries to navigate his new life with Sylvia, he also struggles with his artistic pursuits. He becomes disillusioned with the commercial art world and longs to create art that is true to his own vision. The novel explores themes of love, marriage, and the conflict between artistic integrity and financial success. It is a thought-provoking and engaging read that offers a glimpse into the world of early 20th century art and society. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
