The book chronicles her life from her childhood in Kiev, where she showed an early talent for painting, to her move to Paris to pursue her artistic dreams. Despite facing numerous obstacles, including the disapproval of her family and the male-dominated art world, Bashkirtseff persevered and became a celebrated painter, writer, and feminist icon. The book also delves into Bashkirtseff's personal life, including her relationships with men and women, her struggles with illness, and her eventual death at the young age of 25. Through Cahuet's meticulous research and vivid writing, readers gain a deep understanding of Bashkirtseff's complex personality, her artistic vision, and the cultural and social milieu in which she lived.Overall, Moussia: The Life And Death Of Maria Bashkirtseff is a compelling and insightful biography that sheds light on the life and legacy of a remarkable woman who defied expectations and left an indelible mark on the art world and beyond. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
