And to make sure they kept their power, they made rules and laws that made it even harder for anyone with less money and social standing (Mutes) to rise. Laws like the power to strip a Mute of their employment without just cause and the rule that many Gilde marrying a Mute will drop to the lowest level of social standing, becoming Alloys or Plunges. This series follows Josaline as she tries to navigate a world her upbringing didn't prepare her for. As she searches for her cousin Rene, Josaline will face danger, oppression, prejudice, and forbidden love while trying to find her place in this world.
If you're a fan of Jennifer Armentrout, then you'll love the writing style of this book. It is a Halal romance and has no spice. Features tropes: found family, enemies to lovers, one horse (except it's a motorcycle)/forced proximity, secret pining, forbidden romance, slow burn, and morally grey male protagonist.
