Motor Boat Boys' River Chase by Louis Arundel is a thrilling tale of six adventurous boys-Jack, George, Herb, Josh, Buster, and Jimmie-who embark on a river journey during their Easter holidays. The story begins with the boys preparing their motorboats for a cruise down the Mississippi River to explore Bedloe's Island, a place shrouded in mystery and rumored to be haunted. Each boy has a distinct personality, contributing to the dynamic of the group. Jack, the commodore, is the leader, while George is obsessed with speed and his boat's engine. Herb values comfort, Josh is the cook, Buster is the good-natured fisherman, and Jimmie adds humor with his Irish charm. As they set off, the boys encounter various challenges and humorous situations, particularly with George's temperamental engine and Buster's fishing exploits. Buster's determination to catch a fish leads to a comical yet dangerous incident where he is nearly pulled into the river by a giant catfish. The camaraderie among the boys is evident as they support each other through these adventures. Upon reaching Bedloe's Island, they set up camp and prepare for a night of exploration. However, the discovery of a mysterious footprint near their supplies hints at the presence of an unknown intruder, adding an element of suspense to their journey. The boys must now navigate the challenges of camping on the island while uncovering the secrets it holds. Arundel's narrative combines humor, adventure, and mystery, capturing the essence of youthful exploration and friendship. The story is a testament to the boys' resilience and teamwork as they face unexpected obstacles and unravel the island's mysteries.
