Carlos Garcia was eight years old when the Spanish Civil War started in July 1936. This is the true story of one boy in a world gone mad. Triana is an industrial neighborhood of Seville, Spain, famous for its blue glazed tiles. The industry dates back to Roman times. Everyone worked in the factory, including Carlos. Life was hard, but rich in love and faith. Carlos helps his grandmother and Celia, the gypsy flamenco dancer, to escape the massacre in the Triana neighborhood by the fascists. They find sanctuary in a great hacienda with an American artist, who teaches Carlos about painting, architecture and the human spirit. Betrayed by Celia's boyfriend, the writer, two women and Carlos set out on a journey to cross from the madness of Spain to the relative safety of France when tragedy strikes.
